We have some good news and some potentially bad news for Nintendo Switch owners who are anticipating Frogwares'
The Sinking City, as the developer reveals that the game will finally release next week but it will only be available digitally.
According to the developer,
The Sinking City will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch in just week from today, becoming available on the Nintendo Switch eShop on Thursday the
12th of September; with the normal version costing $49.99 USD and a Deluxe Edition that adds additional missions costing players $64.99 USD.
The reson why the game isn't released physically is mainly because of time constraints, as Communications Manager at Frogwares, Sergey Oganesyan, reveals that distributing a physical edition of
The Sinking City would force them to push back the release date even further.
"
We initially wanted to do a physical release – we know lots of players prefer these – but we were eventually forced to put this off for now. We didn’t want to take too long to release the game on the Nintendo Switch, but going into the logistics and distribution of physical editions would push the release back by months. Frogwares is self-publishing this version but we’re not a big company and don’t have the resources to handle such a complex process ourselves."
Frogwares not releasing a physical copy of
The Sinking City doesn't mean that they will never consider doing it, as Oganesyan also mentioned that they "
might release a physical edition later"; until then, most fans of the game will still be glad it's finally launching for the Nintendo Switch next week.
The Sinking City is a game of investigation and mystery taking place in a fictional open world inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. The player steps into the shoes of a 1920s private investigator who finds himself in the city of Oakmont Massachusetts, New England. A city suffering from unprecedented floods of clearly supernatural origins, a city trembling on the brink of madness.
The Sinking City will be available for the Nintendo Switch on the 12th of September.
