Indie developer 8 Circuit Studios has officially revealed that their first major project, titled
Project Genesis, has wrapped up the first closed playtest session that was held on February 1, 2019. During that event, the first group of players that had already signed up on the
Project Genesis website had a unique chance to test the current build of
Genesis and, of course, battle other lucky players online.
“
This early testing has allowed us to refine our onboarding experience as we look ahead to our Open Alpha later this year," said Producer Terry Hammer. "
These benefits include network stress testing, [...] and strategies for compilation of feedback for the fastest implementation in game.” If you feel like
Genesis is something you'd be potentially interested in (especially if you're a fan of
Wing Commander or more recent
Starlink: Battle for Atlas), be sure to apply to become a Test Pilot

According to 8 Circuit Studios, the wider Limited Pre-Alpha stage of playtesting will begin in late March, so you still have plenty of time to register. When it comes to the game's upcoming Open Alpha, it is scheduled to begin in Summer of 2019, with more details to be released in the coming months. In the meantime, be sure to take a closer look at
Project Genesis in this all-new, and intense gameplay trailer:
In Project Genesis, players inhabit the A.I. mind of a support ship that learns that it must choose between self-sacrifice to save the last vestiges of the human race, or opt for self-determination to embark on its own destiny. This AI’s quest for preservation sets players out into the stars to pilot space cruisers and engage in furious combat that allows them to destroy their enemies using advanced technologies, fortify their ships from damage, and board enemy ships. Once the boarding party lands on the enemy ship, players will enter a first-person perspective as they infiltrate and eradicate enemy forces from the inside out. Destroying control points and clearing the ship gives one control over their enemy’s ship. Capturing ships and completing missions generate payouts to the victor, which take the form of XP, weapons, ammo, and in-game credits.
Project Genesis doesn't have an official release date and is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
