Moonlighter is a beautiful Zelda-like dungeon crawler that also allows you to run a store. While it doesn't sound too exciting, the devil’s in the detail. To sell new things, our protagonist Will has to heads into dungeons in order to grab the necessary loot. Moonlighter is all about exploring, fighting enemies and most importantly finding the loot to upgrade your equipment or to be sold.
Digital Sun's Moonlighter is child of The Legend of Zelda games and Supergiant Games' Bastion. The core gaming loop forces you to go down to the dungeon to kill mobs allowing you to stock your shop with their goodies. Returning to town can be achieved in three ways: beating the boss, spending a relatively nominal fee to take a one-way trip back, or spending a large fee to open a portal back.
The Action RPG with rogue-lite elements currently sits at a respectable 85 on Metacritic (PS4), making it one of the best-reviewed indie games in a while. The PC version of Moonlighter features some major bugs, including audio and controller remapping problems. Moonlighter is available on PS4, PC, and Xbox One right now as the Nintendo Switch version will launch "soon," probably in October.
