Epic Games and Nintendo released the highly popular Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch but some players found themselves not being able to access their already existing accounts due to cross-play issues. This isn't really Nintendo's problem but Sony's—who have some cross-play restrictions that make it difficult for players to play games with other platforms.

Anyone playing Fortnite on their PlayStation 4 know the hassle that is cross-playing with friends who game on Xbox One, or other operating systems. While there are solutions to this problem, manyu players don't find it ideal to create an account at Epic Games to somewhat solve the cross-play problem. But the issue that Nintendo Switch owners found when trying to play the game and transfer all of their progress achieved while playing Fornite on Sony's console was that there was no way to log in to their accounts on the Nintendo Switch. Again, this isn't a Nintendo problem but Sony not allowing for cross-play in most of their games.

Today, Nintendo chief operating officer Reggie Fils-Aimé acknowledges this issue and explained that Nintendo is committed cross-playas they want to embrace the developer's vision.

"We embrace working with a developer and enabling them to bring their vision to life, and whether that's Fortnite, whether that's a number of the other games that have cross-platform play on our console, from a developer standpoint that's what we want. And we work hard with them to bring that to life", said Fils-Aimé while also mentioning that being developer-forward and fan-forward is in the best interest of the game.

Whether Sony decides to make a change in their cross-play policies is to be seen but at least we know for a fact that Nintendo is more than willing to allow cross-play as they keep encouraging games like Fortnite and Rocket League to be enjoyed by anyone with anyone, regardless of the platform they choose to play their games in.
