Nintendo really delivered today with their Nintendo Direct presentation for this year's E3 and, to wrap things up nicely, they decided to end their presentation with the jaw-dropping announcement that a direct sequel to
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is currently in the works.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a breath of fresh air(I'm somewhat intending this pun, to be quite honest) for the series, which had been getting a lot of criticism lately due to how linear games had become; and linear is definitely something
Breath of the Wild isn't.
Released in March of 2017 for the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo Switch,
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild became one of the best rated games in the series, and was also given the Game of the Year at the 2017 The Game Awards.
While not much was revealed in this announcement trailer, we can assume that Link and Zelda have began their quest to restore Hyrule to its former glory after the Calamity destroyed it 100 years ago, and it is then that they find something sinister in the dungeons of Hyrule Castle.
Because this was only the game's announcement, we obviously don't have an official release date for the game but, considering that this title is ussing most of the assets from the previous one, it is safe to say that its development won't be mean another 5 years(the standard when it comes to games in the series) until the game releases.
