With Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns arriving in less than a week, Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios have released the launch trailer for the highly anticipated expansion. The new trailer provides a bit more context for the upcoming expansion, including a closer look at the new storyline.

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns "continues the cinematic narrative centered on a dangerous threat that has emerged from an alternate timeline, led by the ruthless Titan Havik."

"To defeat this menace, Fire God Liu Kang must rally his champions and put faith in his enemies before his New Era of peace is turned into khaos for the realms," the synopsis teases.

While we're all excited to experience the next chapter in Mortal Kombat 1's story, the highlight, of course, is the arrival of all-new characters — included in Kombat Pack 2 — as well as Animalities, a new finishing move that sees the characters morph into their spirit animal to annihilate defeated opponents. There's no shortage of brutal action and gore in the trailer as we see the new characters show off their deadly combat skills.

Six new characters are joining Mortal Kombat 1's roster with Kombat Pack 2, although only three will be available at the launch of Khaos Reigns. Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot will all be playable on September 24th when the expansion releases. You can get a good look at their fighting styles below!

The remaining three DLC characters — Ghostface, the T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian — will be added at a later date. But they also get a bit of the spotlight in the launch trailer, which reveals the first Fatality for Ghostface. In addition to his Fatality, we also see glimpses of the new Animality finishing moves as well. As previously confirmed, every character in Mortal Kombat 1 will receive an Animality as part of a free content update that will arrive alongside the Khaos Reigns launch.

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns releases digitally at 8 a.m. PDT / 10 a.m. CDT / 11 a.m. EDT for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) on September 24. The expansion is currently available for pre-order for $49.99 ($39.99 on Nintendo Switch). Anyone who pre-orders will receive four new character skins: Wedding Scorpion, Empress Mileena, and klassic Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 versions of Sub-Zero and Noob Saibot.

Other purchase options include the Khaos Reigns Kollection which features the main game,  the first Kombat Pack, 1,250 Dragon Krystals (in-game currency), and access to the Khaos Reigns expansion when it launches on September 24. There's also the Khaos Reigns Bundle for those who already own the game but never bought the Kombat Pack 1.
