Mortal Kombat is set for another cinematic adaptation (a reboot, thankfully), yet we're yet to hear anything about it beyond who's at the helm. James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7, The Nun) is attached as director. Wan recently provided a long-sought after update on the reboot.
Heroic Hollywood brought up the Mortal Kombat movie during an interview, in-promotion of Wan's forthcoming film Aquaman, wherein Wan told them: “That has been such a tricky one just trying to get the script to a point."
People don’t know this, fans don’t understand this, but there’s just so much on the business side of things… to try and get the right budget for it, and we want to make sure we have enough resources and the budget to do the film right. If I can’t get the right resources and find the right filmmaker for it, I don’t want to do it, and I’m so busy already. I don’t need to clutter my plate with more stuff if I don’t believe it can be done right.
Not quite the greatest news for fans of the franchise, but at least it isn't dead in the water just yet. Here's hoping Wan pulls through.
What do you think of Wan's statement? Are you looking forward to the Mortal Kombat movie reboot?
