With the colossal success of the
Injustice franchise, it makes sense that Marvel would approach NetherRealm about making a game for their characters. Still, it's somewhat shocking as Capcom has been the go-to studio for Marvel for over a decade. Perhaps the poor reception of 2017's
Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite has Marvel thinking about finally jumping ship? It would also mean that Marvel was attempting to poach Boon and his team as NetherRealm is owned by DC Comics' parent company, Warner Bros.
"
Yes, I did [talk to Marvel about making a fighting game]. But I probably shouldn't talk about it," said Boon as he probably realized he was approaching a touchy subject given DC's rivalry with Marvel over the years. Boon went on to add that he'd actually like to make a game that featured characters from both publishers. "
We would love to make like a Marvel fighting game or Marvel vs. DC I think would be the coolest."
As it was a rapid-fire interview of 166 questions, Boon didn't have time to elaborate but this revelation will likely sprout a thousand rumors before it's eventually revealed just how and when Marvel approached Boon.
