One of the most random things to come out of the
Mortal Kombat 11 reveal was a meme that started gaining a lot of traction online: Scooby Doo's Shaggy Rogers becoming a playable character in NetherRealm Studios' latest entry in the
Mortal Kombat series.
Fans were really beginning to believe that Shaggy could, indeed, be joining the game's roster when even Ed Boon —
Mortal Kombat series co-creator — posted some fan-made concept art of Shaggy fighting Scorpion.
To add to the fuel, Matthew Lillard — who has played Shaggy in the live action
Scooby Doo movies and has provided the voice for the character in cartoons, ever since — also shared some fan-art of Shaggy and Scooby as
Mortal Kombat characters.
Well, it seems that all those fans who have actually believed that the character could be joining the
Mortal Kombat 11 roster are about to have their hearts broken since NetherRealm Studios has completely shut down any possibilities of the Shaggy ever becoming a character in the game.
The news comes from yesterday's
Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Kast, where NetherRealm's community manager Tyler Lansdown bluntly shut down the possibility of Shaggy joining
Mortal Kombat 11 by simply saying that "
Shaggy will not be in the game. At all. Ever. Sorry, dead meme."
Lansdown's statement was quickly followed by a #RIPShaggy tweet posted on the official
Mortal Kombat 11 Twitter account, where they ended up killing the Shaggy meme for good.
As ridiculous as the whole thing may sound, there are people out there who were completely convinced that Shaggy could join
Mortal Kombat 11 as a playable character.
A petition for this to happen even managed to gather a staggering 300,000 signatures. Thankfully, NetherRealm Studios stepped up and shut down this ludicrous idea.
The all new Custom Character Variations give you unprecedented control to customize the fighters and make them your own. The new graphics engine showcasing every skull-shattering, eye-popping moment, brings you so close to the fight you can feel it. And featuring a roster of new and returning Klassic Fighters, Mortal Kombat’s best in class cinematic story mode continues the epic saga over 25 years in the making.
Mortal Kombat 11 will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on the 23rd of April.
Nintendo Switch version will release on the 10th of May.
