Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are currently working on a live-action
Mortal Kombat movie. It will be produced by James Wan (
Aquaman) and be the first directing credit of Simon McQuoid. Greg Russo is responsible for the film's script — as well as the scripts of the in-development
Saints Row and
Resident Evil movies.
Last month,
we got our first casting news about the upcoming
Mortal Kombat movie. It was announced that Joe Taslim (
The Raid) will play the iconic character of Sub Zero. Thanks to a new report by
Variety, we now know who is up for the role of Liu Kang.
Ludi Lin is best known for portraying the Black Ranger in 2017's
Power Rangers movie. Interestingly, he recently played a virtual fighting game character in an episode of Netflix's
Black Mirror. Lin is reportedly in talks to play Liu Kang in the
Mortal Kombat film.
Currently, we don't know which of the
Mortal Kombat characters will feature in the live-action movie. Sub Zero has been confirmed and this new report would serve as confirmation of Liu Kang — should it be proven accurate. Given that both Sub Zero and Liu Kang were first introduced in the original
Mortal Kombat game, it stands to reason that the film might feature that roster.
The live-action Mortal Kombat movie is set release on March 5th, 2021.
