Many fans of Alien: Isolation have been wondering about the future of the franchise after reportedly "weak" sales of the game. Before Creative Assembly's critically acclaimed game, Sega has produced and released underwhelming Aliens vs. Predator and one of the most disappointing projects in the history of video-gaming, Aliens: Colonial Marines. Today Fox has announced that the deal with Sega is over.
FoxNext Games has acquired Cold Iron Studios, which will be responsible for the future of the Alien series. Their first "triple A" project will be a shooter for consoles and PC. “Cold Iron Studios has amazing design, craftsmanship and development talent that we are excited to welcome at FoxNext Games as we pursue our goal to build a multi-platform, multi-genre portfolio of great games,” Aaron Loeb, president of studios at FoxNext Games said in a press release. “I am a personal fan of Cold Iron’s previous work and all of us at FoxNext Games are thrilled to be working with them as they create an action-packed persistent world, steeped in the mysteries of this beloved Alien universe.”
It's hard to say how 21st Century Fox's deal with The Walt Disney Company will affect this ambitious idea, but let's hope it won't stop Cold Iron from delivering a truly mesmerizing Alien experience. After Gearbox's tragicomical Colonial Marines and the last two Ridley Scott movies, it's time to remind everyone why the franchise holds a special place in our hearts. And stomachs, naturally.
