Alien: Blackout was officially announced three days ago as a mobile title that's being developed by FoxNext Games, D3 Go!, and Rival Games. In
Blackout, you will play as Amanda Ripley, Ellen's daughter, who's aboard an alien-infested Weyland-Yutani space station once again. This
Alien: Isolation spiritual successor will be coming to the App Store, Google Play and Amazon Appstore on January 24, 2019.
While it's nice to hear that Fox is still thinking about Creative Assembly’s horror masterpiece
Alien: Isolation, many fans have been hoping that
Blackout is just a tease, a companion app to a much bigger video game that will allow them to learn what happened after Amanda's departure from Sevastopol Station. Well, that dream might be over as Fox has no plans to make any new single-player
Alien games.
"
Blackout is a standalone premium mobile game. It’s not promotional for any other component of the Alien franchise," said TQ Jefferson, vice president of external development at FoxNext in an interview with Variety's Brian Crecente. "
There are a lot of stories we can tell in the franchise. We can tell more stories about Amanda Ripley without it being an Isolation game,” Jefferson added.
When it comes to a potential
Alien movie focused on Amanda, Fox has no plans to bring her to the big screen and the situation likely won't change anytime soon. In more positive news, the PC and console shooter from Cold Iron Studios is still in the works. As a reminder, the first issue of Dark Horse's
Aliens: Resistance comics will hit stores on January 23, 2019, continuing Amanda Ripley's terrifying story.
Discover the true meaning of fear in Alien: Isolation, a survival horror set in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger. Fifteen years after the events of Alien, Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda enters a desperate battle for survival, on a mission to unravel the truth behind her mother's disappearance. As Amanda, you will navigate through an increasingly volatile world as you find yourself confronted on all sides by a panicked, desperate population and an unpredictable, ruthless Alien.
