BATTLEFIELD V: Two New Modes, Three Maps And A Never-Before-Seen Theater Of War Are Coming

EA has released an updated roadmap for DICE's Battlefield V, and it looks like the upcoming launch of the shooter's battle royale mode will only be a small beginning of the next wave of major updates...

With Battlefield V's long-awaited battle royale mode (dubbed Firestorm) debuting this Monday, Electronic Arts has decided to finally reveal what's coming next to DICE's shooter. Between March and fall 2019, EA is planning to launch three fully-fledged Chapters: Trial by Fire, Defying the Odds, and Awakening the Giant, each bringing new content, game modes, missions, and maps to the base game.

EA has shared a pretty informative roadmap for the future of Battlefield V, shedding some light on the upcoming Chapters. While there's no denying that the battle royale game mode will be the biggest star of Trials by Fire, it's not the only new feature that will be added to the game in the coming weeks.

Trials will introduce players to a new map – Mercury – inspired by Operation Mercury (the Battle of Crete), Outpost (further details on this mode will be revealed “when it's live”), and some updates to Combined Arms (bringing new matchmaking, hardcore mode, and two missions on the Fjell map).

The fourth Chapter will be launching in June with two new multiplayer maps ("one called Marita, adding to the conflict in Greece, and the second being a closely guarded secret that we know our Battlefield veterans will enjoy") and a new 5v5 mode. More details on Defying the Odds will be unveiled during EA PLAY 2019 that kicks off on June 7th – but without an annual press conference.

Chapter 5: Awakening the Giant is the most mysterious one, and the only thing we know for sure about this "land, air, and sea invasion in a completely new theater of war" is that it will be launching this fall. The "giant" part most definitely refers to Isoroku Yamamoto's quote from the classic 1970 film Tora! Tora! Tora regarding the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor by forces of the Empire of Japan: "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."
