Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's lack of a traditional campaign mode has been one of the main reasons why many players have turned their backs on the long-running franchise. Activision’s decision to put a heavy emphasis on the battle royale gameplay and seemingly forget about those who enjoy a good (even if dumb and overdramatic) COD story has also sparked many controversies among the players.
According to Gaming INTEL (the website that first announced that battle royale was coming to BLOPS4 a year ago), 2019's COD is indeed Modern Warfare 4 that will try to bring the shooter series back to its roots, offering players “only” three game modes: the long-awaited story campaign, co-op, and multiplayer – so if INTEL's sources are right, 2019's COD will feature no battle royale or Specializations.
Considering that BLOPS4's battle royale mode (Blackout) still is a highly popular feature, including a similar mode in MW4 would definitely undercut Treyarch’s output. Rumor has it that the Zombies mode will also make a return, but INTEL's sources don’t go into detail about that one. Considering that Sony will skip this year's E3, we should learn more about 2019's COD during Microsoft’s E3 conference.
