Though Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 doesn't feature a campaign mode per se, it does feature a hidden story - which explains the origin of the multiplayer Specialists and the new "Blackout" mode.

Though many were left in dismay at the announcement that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 wouldn't feature a singleplayer campagin, in actuality it does have a pseudo-story-mode - it's just not as obvious.

If you've taken to the "Specialists HQ" tab on the main menu, after completing a tutorial for your chosen Specialist, you will have been greeted by a cutscene. Each of these Specialist tutorials come equipped with multiple cutscenes and, when completed, form what might as well be considered a full-on story-mode - with twists, shocking moments, reveals, the whole shabang.

Black Ops 4 actually continues the story of the previous titles, bar Black Ops 3 as 4 is a prequel to that, with Alex Mason's granddaughters playing key roles in the backstory behind the multiplayer mode's Specialists as well as the the new "Blackout" battle-royale mode.
