Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will hit retailer shelves on November 4, however, there are already rumors pertaining to the next entry in the franchise from publisher, Sledgehammer Studios.  The rumor surfaced on IGN Spain, who sites a previous (cancelled) third-person Call of Duty project from Sledgehammer as the basis of the rumor.

Before Activision enacted a three-year cycle-three-year rotation in 2014 between the developer studios Treyarch, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer, Activion was on a two-year cycle with just Treyarch and Infinity Ward.  Back in 2011 Sledgehammer was not officially part of the Activision Call of Duty family and was merely an independent contractor hired to explore the possibility of a third-person Call of Dut adventure-shooter in the same vein as Uncharted and Gears of War.  That project was eventually shelved and many fans thought the reason was that Activision was not impressed.  However, IGN Spain surmises that was not the case, in fact, they say it was the complete opposite.

With many gamers disillusioned with the franchise and pointing to the futuristic setting of Infinite Warfare as a franchise misstep, a return ro more traditional warfare, such as Vietnam, would certainly be welcoming.

For all things Call of Duty, stay tuned to Gamefragger as we countdown to the release of Infinite Warfare.
