Following a series of teaser videos, Activision has officially announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Previous rumors and leaks pointed to this year's installment in the annual blockbuster shooter franchise returning to the Black Ops series, although it was believed to be set during the Gulf War. These latest videos seem to indicate it will be set in the current day, or maybe in the near future.
Activision confirmed that the worldwide reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will take place on Sunday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m. PT. That means it will officially be revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase. However, Activision is also hosting a more in-depth Black Ops 6 Direct immediately following the Xbox Games Showcase.
The Xbox Games Showcase will likely feature some sort of global reveal trailer, while the Black Ops 6 DIrect will probably go into more depth, highlighting all-new gameplay and product announcements. This probably means a release date and pre-order details.
Not much is actually known about the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 story. All of the teasers released so far suggest some sort of global conspiracy that is about to be uncovered.
Activision recently launched some viral marketing for the game in the form of a website, www.TheTruthLies.com. The website hosts an interactive television where you can flip through the channels to see the different videos.
There looks to be space for six total videos, but only four of them are currently available to be viewed. Channel 1, the "LYER Channel Guide" lists all of the video titles along with an extended forecast that teases "Excessive Deceit" and "Scattered Lies."
The other videos, "Tear Down the Lies" and "The Truth Cometh," show a mysterious group of people defacing Mount Rushmore and other monuments worldwide with claims that the governments are lying and covering up some sort of secret. There are still two more channels/videos that have yet to be releasd.
Call of Duty is one of the biggest video game franchises in the world, but this will be the first time the series is in the hands of Microsoft. The Xbox parent company acquired Activision Blizzard as part of a massive deal last year.
While Microsoft and Xbox probably had little to do with the actual development of Black Ops 6, the company could affect how it is released. It will almost certainly still be a multiplatform game, but there is speculation it could be a Game Pass launch title, which would make it free to anyone Xbox or PC gamer who subscribes to the service.
