Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launched in October 2019 and served as a reboot of the iconic Call of Duty subseries of the same name. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War followed, releasing in November 2020, and then Call of Duty: Vanguard released in September of last year.
It's long been believed that the next installment in the popular first-person shooter series will be a follow-up to the 2019 entry, likely titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. That holds true, even now, as a reputable Call of Duty insider claims that not only will the 2022 installment in the series be a sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare but it will be released earlier than expected.
According to Tom Henderson, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be officially revealed in Summer (as per usual) and will release in October, which is earlier than anticipated. Henderson claims this is because of Call of Duty: Vanguard not selling to the degree Activision would've hoped. What's more, apparently a major update to Call of Duty: Warzone will arrive alongside the next entry.
"As expected, it's looking like this year's Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare II (2022), will be revealed in the summer," said Henderson. "Hearing rumblings that the title could release in October due to Vanguard's poor sales performance, with a 'big' Warzone update coming soon after."
