In just a few days, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will get one of the franchise's most beloved maps. Nuketown is being added to the game on November 1st, and Activision has finally shared the full-fledged trailer.
The trailer offers our best look yet at the highly anticipated map, which has become a franchise staple since being introduced in 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. All of the frantic, close-quarters action is back and on full display in the trailer, while Activision shared some additional details, including what's different in this Black Ops 6 version.
As seen in the trailer, Black Ops 6's Nuketown is an homage to the original version players first encountered back in 2010. It keeps the classic 1950s design of the Nevada testing site and is "extremely faithful" to the original design and layout of the map.
"The original Nuketown has always been my favorite, mainly because of how it came about and how the studio rallied around it,” said Veteran Treyarch Map designer Adam Hoggatt, who build the original Nuketown map. “Recently, it occurred to me that many of our current players have never experienced the original, so they get to feel the Nuketown magic for the first time.”
He added: "I'm excited that we are bringing back the original Nuketown exactly as you remember it but looking better than ever! Those players will definitely be hit with a big wave of nostalgia. I can't wait!"
For those who have never played Nuketown, Activision offered the following brief description of the map's layout, which emphasizes fast-paced, close-quarters combat action.
While most of the combat is centered around the bus and container truck, the interiors (and upper floors) of the opposing houses – recently installed after being constructed and shipped from nearby Area 99 – allow for a variety of excellent sightlines toward the opposing team’s spawn point. That is provided you’re not put off by the dead gaze of the plastic people inhabiting the cul-de-sac on the corner of Latchkey Road and Trinity Avenue.
While Nuketown's arrival is highly anticipated, Black Ops 6 does already offer some maps that maintain the same vibe. Warhead, a Multiplayer launch Strike map, is set in the vicinity of the infamous testing site and is playable in Face Off 6v6 or 2v2 Gunfight.
Additionally, the new Area 99 Resurgence map will be available in Call of Duty: Warzone with the start of Season 1. This map is also set in the Nevada desert and is a top secret government site located just miles away from the original Nuketown location.
"See where it all began by exploring the mannequin assembly plant, the factory warehouse including pieces of the Nuketown homes in development, and much more, when Season 01 launches!" Activision teased. The massive Black Ops 6 content drop arrives on Thursday, November 14th.
