Raven Software dropped by Sony's PlayStation 5 Showcase to reveal some gameplay from the campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The footage shown was from the mission "Nowhere Left To Run," which takes place in an isolated airport runway in Turkey.
You'll play as CIA Operative Alex Mason on a covert mission to infiltrate the airport and take out the high value target, Arash, before he boards a freight aircraft. But when the shot hits one of Arash's men, the cover is blown and the whole mission turns into pure chaos. It's your typical Call of Duty mission, filled with blockbuster moments and explosive set pieces as you hop into a pickup truck and give chase to the plane that's pulling away.
The footage was captured on PlayStation 5 and specifically show's off the console's ray-tracing technology, which creates dynamic and lifelike shadows and lighting during the nighttime operation. It also features 4K resolution and 120hz refresh rate with high dynamic range (HDR) support.
In addition to the gameplay, it was also announced that PlayStation 4 owners will get first crack at Black Ops Cold War's multiplayer with an exclusive Alpha weekend. Access to this weekend's Alpha, which runs from September 18-20, is completely free (except for Germany and Japan) and pre-loading begins on September 17 at 8:00 a.m. PDT. Activision didn't go into full specifics, but did say the Alpha will feature multiple modes, maps and a preview of the Create-a-Class and Scorestreak systems.
There will also be two Beta weekends for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beginning in October. Early access to the beta will be for those who pre-order the game, but eventually it will open up to everyone on all platforms. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches on November 13, just after the release of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
