The first weekend of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's beta kicks off on Thursday with early access granted to those who have pre-ordered the game on PlayStation 4. On Saturday, October 10, the beta will open up to all PS4 players, giving the entire PlayStation community a chance to experience Treyarch's latest blockbuster.
Activision has released a new trailer to hype the upcoming beta, teasing the multiple game modes that will be available: Team Deathmatch, Domination and Kill Confirmed. These modes will be played across maps of varying sizes and layouts in the beta, including Miami, Moscow and Satellite. Players will also get to experience limited Create-a-Class, Gunsmith and Scorestreak customization features. It's unlikely that the recently revealed Zombies experience will be playable.
Activision has one more beta weekend planned after this. Weekend 2 will run from October 15 through October 19 and will be available for all platforms. Xbox and PC early access as well as PS4 open access will run from Oct. 15-16. The beta will then run on all platforms, regardless of pre-order status, from Oct. 17-19.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches on November 13 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC. If you don't plan on upgrading to a next-gen console int he near future, you are safe to purchase the Standard Edition of the game; however, if you plan to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X at or around launch (or in the near future), you may want to go with the Cross-Gen Bundle for $69.99. This includes a PS4 or Xbox One version as well as the next-gen version in the same console family.
