Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone Season 4 kicked off earlier this week. Here's a rundown of all that's new this time around.
Seemingly in commemoration of the fourth season finally arriving, Activision and Infinity Ward have announced that the multiplayer portion of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is going free-to-play — for at least a little while.
It's a "Free Access Multiplayer Weekend." This isn't the first time they've done this. All you require is the Call of Duty: Warzone application, which itself is free. Through Call of Duty: Warzone, you should be able to access Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer until Monday, June 15th at 10 AM PT.
Two playlists will be available to those who don't outright own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare but are playing the multiplayer portion for free. One is dedicated to traditional 6v6 multiplayer and features five maps (including Scrapyard, Hardhat, Shoot House, Shipment, and more), while the other is dedicated to the Gunfight game mode and features seven maps.
Any progress you make during this free-to-play weekend will carry over into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer proper should you subsequently choose to purchase a copy of the game.
Additionally, Double XP and Double Weapon XP is live in-game until Monday as well.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone are available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
