The first teaser videos for this year's new Call of Duty game have been posted online. With just a few weeks until the Xbox Games Showcase and presumably Call of Duty Direct, it seems that Activision is kicking off the marketing cycle to drum up hype.
Gamers discovered a teaser site dedicated to this year's game — which is rumored to be Black Ops 6 (or possibly Black Ops Gulf War) — along with multiple videos. The site, "TheTruthLies.com," features just a single television that users can interact with and change the channels.
There are a total of six channels that you can flip through but as of this writing, only three have videos. The first video shows a group of masked individuals sneaking into the Mount Rushmore National Memorial at night. It's revealed that they hang black blindfolds on each of the faces that read: "The Truth Lies." One of the bandanas has the same Black Ops icon featured in the [Redacted Direct] that was previously teased.
A second video shows individuals hanging up posters that, again, feature the Mount Rushmore faces with their eyes whited out. The poster also reads: "The Truth Lies."
A third video (found on channel 6) is a breaking news report that claims monuments worldwide have been defaced. In this video, we see several monuments across the globe defaced. We see the Brandenburg Gate in Germany with a translated tagline as well as a shot of the equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington at the Royal Exchange in London tagged with the line "Truth is the first casualty of war." All of the lines appear to reference some sort of lies being told — perhaps by the global governments?
There are still a few more channels that have yet to reveal their videos, but it may only be a few more hours until they are released as well.
In addition to the videos, a blurred version of what looks like the Black Ops 6 key art was leaked online as well. While the image is blurred, fans were quick to note that it bears a striking resemblance to the classic Black Ops 1 box art.
What does it all mean? Well, aside from the official reveal seemingly on the horizon, we're not really sure. Rumors have indicated this year's Call of Duty game will be titled Black Ops Gulf War, but nothing in these teasers alludes to that.
