Most of the United States is currently enraptured in protest following the death of George Floyd. These protests regard police brutality, specifically against black people, as well as racism in general.
While the PlayStation 5 reveal even was intended to take place today, it was delayed due to these protests. Similarly, Infinity Ward and Activision opted to delay the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone Season 4 on account of the protests — more on that here.
Well, Infinity Ward seem to have been inspired by the protests to take further action against racist players of their games. Over on Twitter, the studio detailed new efforts that they're making to expunge racist content from Call of Duty.
It's no secret that Call of Duty lobbies aren't the nicest of places, it's just curious that Infinity Ward is only taking action like this now — but they're undoubtedly still positive changes nonetheless. Infinity Ward will be implementing additional filters, resources, and more to counter racist usernames and other content of the like.
"There is no place for racist content in our game," reads their statement that you can check out below (via @InfinityWard). "This is an effort we began with launch and we need to do a better job. We're issuing thousands of daily bans of racist and hate-oriented names. But we know we have to do more -- and we are."
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone are both out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
