Activision has revealed another signature pillar in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's multiplayer: Treyarch's signature Zombies mode. With Black Ops Cold War, Treyarch is starting fresh with its Zombies mode, introducing a new narrative and cast of characters; although, long-time fans "will likely find something familiar with this new chapter," the developer teased.
Set in the early '80s, players will explore Die Maschine, a graffiti-skinned, boarded-up World War II bunker with nods to Nacht der Untoten, the original Zombies map in Call of Duty: World at War. As members of Requiem, the CIA-backed international team led by Grigori Weaver (another throwback to the original Black Ops story), players will investigate the unnatural phenomena that resides within this crumbled bunker.
But they won't be alone. The Soviet-led Omega Group has also taken interest in the bunker, particularly with studying and harndessing the unexplained events and anomalies. Treyarch teases:
Between Requiem and Omega Group, there are plenty of characters who may aid or hinder your journey, while others have separate, unknown agendas that will be up to players to discover. Among this cast, there is one particular contact – Sam – who seems eager to share intel discovered from deep within the KGB.
Bolstered by various pieces of intel that players can track in-game, this incredible Zombies story will start to unfold in mysterious and unexpected ways...
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies will retain some of the core gameplay elements players are familiar with, including Perks (Juggernog and Speed Cola), Pack-a-Punch machines, and mystery boxes; however, some changes have been made. For instance, there's no longer a limit to how many different Perks you can consume. Additionally, all weapons will now have a rarity assigned to them which not only adds more variety but also gives you the chance to to find a weapon that can be sustainable in later rounds. Players will also be able to bring their Gunsmith-crafted weapon of choice into the match.
Playing Zombies mode will also contribute the Black Ops Cold War Battle Pass and cross-generation, cross-platform play will be supported. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches on November 13 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC.
