The latest entry into the Black Ops 6 round based zombies is a map called Citadelle Des Morts. It is a map reminiscent of Der Eisendrache, a shadowy, snowy castle with plenty of mysteries to unpack and elemental bows to wield. Der Eisendrache is my favorite zombies map to this day, so a new map that is seemingly a spiritual successor is very exciting. There’s been a lot of information released surrounding Citadelle Des Morts, so let’s unpack it before the map releases tomorrow.
New Wonder Weapons
It has been confirmed that new wonder weapons will be entering the game. It is rumored that the Ray Gun Mk II, the three round burst assault rifle style Ray Gun, will be returning to the game. I loved obliterating trains of zombies with this weapon and would be ecstatic to see it return. However, the most exciting confirmation is that there will be a new set of elemental wonder weapons similar to the bows on Der Eisendrache, but these weapons will be swords. They will take the dedicated melee weapon slot a knife normally fills, meaning they won’t even replace one of your weapons! The sword will be available in a non upgraded state at first, but it can be upgraded through a series of tasks very similar to the bows of Der Eisendrache or the staffs of Origins. It seems as if the swords correspond with the ammo mods available for regular weapons. There is a fire sword, electric sword, void sword, and a light sword.
Map Size and Design
The new map is a rather large zombies map which seems to be par for the course for Black Ops 6. Terminus and Liberty Falls are on the larger side for zombies maps and the devs seem to want to keep that pattern. However, even though the map may be larger, the design of the map is going to be more cramped and claustrophobic. You know what that reminds me of? Der Eisendrache. That map was one of the bigger zombies maps, but was full of tight corridors that were risks to go through unless a player had already created a train of zombies so large that no more zombies were going to spawn in assuming the player kept them close enough. That is my favorite type of zombies map. One wrong move and you have to turn yourself into an NFL running back, zipping through gaps in the horde and expertly threading the needle.
A New Ammo Mod
It has been confirmed that we will see a new ammo mod when Citadelle Des Morts drops. The new ammo mod is something called “Light Rend”. Killing zombies with this mod causes health orbs to drop that players can stockpile until they have low health. This new ammo mod is exciting, but I hope it isn’t overpowered. It seems like, more or less, a Call of Duty Zombies way of crafting a stim for yourself that is automatically crafted and used as you kill zombies. That’s pretty cool, but I hope it’s not something meant to draw players in because it’s shiny and new that just gets nerfed within a week or so.
A New Field Upgrade
A new field upgrade for zombies has also been confirmed, but this is one we’ve already seen before called Tesla Storm. For those that don’t know, activating this field upgrade caused an arc of lightning to connect to nearby players and damage zombies around the activator and whoever else is affected by it. It was pretty useful in MWZ, but we’ll see if the field upgrade is still useful in Black Ops 6. I truly hope it doesn’t have the exact same visual design and animation as that would be pretty underwhelming.
A Returning Perk
Vulture Aid from Black Ops II is returning to Call of Duty Zombies! The original perk let players see the outline of equipment and purchasable items through walls, made zombies eyes glow brighter, caused ammo and points to occasionally drop, and sometimes created zombies that, when killed, would create a cloud of gas that would shroud you from the attention of zombies. In Black Ops 6, zombies already drop ammo, so I imagine the perk will make ammo drop more frequently.
New Gobblegum
Two new Gobblegums, Timestop and Power Keg, will be available with Citadelle Des Morts. Instead of simply freezing all zombies that are currently spawned into the map, it seems as if this Gobblegum will pause the round entirely meaning no more zombies will spawn at all. Power Keg is much more simple as it simply spawns a Full Power drop, filling players’ field upgrade meter to maximum capacity.
Let me know what you think about all this new information below! I’m excited for the new map to drop tomorrow!
