In the make of a dropping player base, Bungie continues to walk back changes made from Destiny 2 to Destiny 1. However, the changes being made in the upcoming "Go Fast" update just might be the most significant overhaul to date.
A big complaint of longtime Destiny gamers is that their Guardian moves much slower in Destiny 2 and that the time-to-kill was increased to such a degree that it took longer to complete PvE activities. Well, the changes outlined in the Go Fast update are probably enough to make even the most jaded Destiny veteran drop back in to test out the improvements.
Changes in the Go Fast update include:
-
Hand Cannons, pulse rifles, fusion rifles, shotguns and sniper rifles will all receive a damage boost.
-
Supers recharge faster.
-
All three jump glides, Catapult and Strafe Lift move quicker.
-
All three guardian classes have received a boost to their ground speed.
-
The Hunter Arcstrider receives an additional speed boost and has a greater range on all of its attacks.
-
In the Crucible, respawn times will be decreased.
-
Power Ammo will respawn quicker.
-
Enemy guardians in the Crucible who are killed while wielding Power Weapons now drop their remaining Power Ammo. Opposing players and teammates will have 30 seconds to pick it up before it disappears.
Many gamers believe that these changes will put an end to the "group shooting" tactics that permeated throughout the Crucible since Destiny 2's launch. Players complained that it was impossible to go off and be a lone-wolf in the Crucible and flex individual skill because the time-to-kill was too slow. If Bungie is checking message boards around the web, they have to feel moderately pleased as the most prevalent comment seems to be "
I have to give this a try."
While it's no secret that interest in Destiny 2 has waned, Bungie's had the benefit that there's really been no competitor to swoop in and steal their player base, especially with news of Anthem's delay. While a significant portion of their day-one purchasers have moved on - they're all playing different games, not something that's similar/superior to Destiny 2. As such, changes such as the Go Fast update will likely see a significant uptick in the games concurrent player count.
The Go Fast update is currently in testing and scheduled to be included in the next major Sandbox update later this month. However, Bungie cautions that testing results may lead to some of the above changes being delayed until the next major
D2 tweaks as outlined in the Road Map.
