We know that Activision's contract with Bungie, creator of the
Halo and
Destiny series, ends in 2020. After that, the American publisher will have to find a new developer that will take care of
Destiny as Bungie has already signed a new (valued at roughly $100 million) deal with Chinese mega tech and gaming company NetEase that will allow the studio to create a fresh IP and explore new directions.
According to a recent leak,
Destiny 3's already being developed at Bungie. The leak comes from a prominent Reddit leaker who revealed in the past many information about
Destiny 2: Forsaken. AnonTheNine's sources confirmed that the work on
Destiny 3 just begun and Art Director for
Destiny Christopher Barrett and
Destiny 2 Director Luke Smith are involved in the project. Sadly, the Reddit user didn't reveal
Destiny 3’s target release date or whether or not it will launch for this gen's consoles.
If the leak is real, Bungie is investing even more into the RPG side of
Destiny. Apparently, Guardians’ new abilities will include powers of darkness. AnonTheNine claims that
Destiny 3 will feature a PvEvP zone where players will be able to “fight for territory.” Players will reportedly have a chance to explore Europa, one of the locations that appeared in
Destiny’s concept art that you can check out below:
Following years of strife, what remains of the Reef has fallen to lawlessness. You and Cayde-6 are sent to personally investigate the recent unrest. Upon arrival, you soon discover the most-wanted criminals in the Prison of Elders have organized an escape. Beyond the Vanguard’s authority, you’ll pursue these fugitives deep into the Reef. Explore new regions, awaken new powers, earn powerful weapons, and uncover long lost Awoken secrets. The hunt is on.
Destiny 2's Forsaken expansion is out NOW for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One.
