The Next DUKE NUKEM Game Already Has A Solution That Will Make It Work

Randy Pitchford and Gearbox are going to make Duke Nukem great again, at least that's what they're trying to tell fans. Click the jump for more information.

Duke Nukem is a name that is always fading in and out of obscurity it seems. One minute, a select few are talking about it and even playing it, but then the next minute, all it's buzz and hype has run dry. The most notable reason that can chalk all of that up to, is the design, at least that's what Randy Pitchford says.

In an interview with IGN, Randy had some insight to share on what he thinks can make Duke Nukem to be the next Halo franchise. "The solution for the next Duke game isn't just about story. We can all dream up a story..." says Pitchford, but adding that the story of a game isn't comeltley irrelevant, "playing with that is going to be a necessity." But he then goes on to reaffirm how in his eyes, the design of the game is the first thing on the top of his list of important matters to attend to, "there has to be something from a design point of view first."

While I'm sure plenty of fans wouldn't necessarily agree with Pitchford's line of reasoning, possibly even saying that you should have a grasp of what story you'd like to tell before you go and do anything else, maybe this switch up in craft will be a benefit for a dry IP.

Pitchford also discussed why he thinks Duke Nukem 3D "worked", and why so many people played it. "Duke 3D worked, not only because of the character... the reason why we all loved the game was because of the gameplay, and some of the innovations that were in the gameplay. You cannot trade on that today, Duke Forever tried and demonstrated what that result is. We're going to need a new design paradigm. Something that we haven't seen before."

After Gearbox's successful Battleborn (hailed as an enlightening journey in some circles), maybe this whole concept for making a Duke Nukem game will work... Who knows.
