This June, Fallout 76 will receive its next major update, titled Skyline Valley. With the success of Prime Video's Fallout television series, the now six-year-old game is having a bit of a resurgence, and this is the first big content release that many of the game's new players will experience.
In a developer preview released this week for Skyline Valley, Bethesda provides a sneak peek at some of the new content set to arrive in Fallout 76 next month.
Skyline Valley will introduce new expedition and storytelling opportunities as it expands the map Southward into the Rolling Hills of Shenandoah. New locations based on the real-world Shenandoah region will be added, such as Mary's Rock Tunnel, the presidential cabins at Rapidan Camp, and Skyline Drive.
In this new region, players will encounter a violent electric storm. At the center of this storm is the entrance to Vault 63, a mysterious vault inhabited by ghouls and led by Hugo Stoltz, "an overseer with a particularly charged personality."
"He's a friendly example of a new, electrified ghoul type we call The Lost," explained Fallout 76 creative director John Rush. "The Lost dwell in their own skewed reality, unable to communicate outside to others, and will defend themselves against any and all outsiders."
The video preview shows the player having a conversation with Hugo and observing some of the other peaceful ghoul inhabitants of Vault 63 before cutting a clip on the outside where they are being attacked by a horde of The Lost.
"For reasons you'll need to uncover for yourself, Hugo is an outlier, and will be a key character to befriend--or betray--as you learn more about his circumstances," Rush teased.
Another new addition with this update are Storm Goliaths, a trio of "supersized robo-brains" developed by "the great minds of Vault 63."
The Skyline Valley region will also be home to a unique public event, "Dangerous Pastimes." In this event, which is recommended for level 50, players take on the role of a stormchaser and are tasked with powering up a giant lightning rod. Closing out the video, we get a brief look at the some new wildlife you'll come across in the region.
Fallout 76's Skyline Valley update is set to arrive sometime in June. With Microsoft hosting its Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, June 9, it's possible we'll get another in-depth look at the Skyline Valley update during the event.
Fallout 76 is available to play on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Those with a Game Pass subscription can play the game for free.
