Fallout 76 was released all the way back in 2018 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game didn't go over too well with fans of the franchise as it was incredibly barebones and frankly outright broken. It was a glitchy, unfinished product and Bethesda even admitted as such during their E3 presentation in 2019.

During that presentation, they announced the Wastelanders update which would attempt to rectify some of the issues that players had with the base game. Firstly and most significantly, they would be adding NPC characters to the open-world. While they're a trademark of the Fallout series (as well as Bethesda games in general) they were absent from Fallout 76.

What's more, the Wastelanders update would bring even more new content and modes such as a multiplayer battle-royale game type called "Nuclear Winter." Fifty-two players compete against each other, in an ever-shrinking arena, to be the last man standing.

Well, at long last, Wastelanders is here! As of April 14th, 2020; the update has gone live for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC players (via @Fallout). It's entirely free and playable now. Thankfully, it seems that players are wholeheartedly enjoying the Wastelanders update which means that Bethesda has effectively saved Fallout 76. Better late than never.

Bethesda Game Studios, the creators of Skyrim and Fallout 4, welcome you to Fallout 76, the online prequel where every surviving human is a real person.

Fallout 76 is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
