Kilter Films and Amazon MGM Studios appear to be wasting no time when it comes to the Fallout series. After announcing an early renewal for Season 3 of the live-action series back in May, it was expected that filming would begin on the new season this summer. Things appear to be progressing faster than expected, however.
According to a new report from ProductionList.com, filming on Fallout Season 3 will begin as soon as May 1st, which is almost two months earlier than previously expected. Last month, Fallout executive producer Jonathan Nolan indicated that they were aiming to begin filming Season 3 this summer so that it could are as soon as possible.
While many series these days take years between seasons, Nolan told IGN they were hoping to "get back on the air in a reasonable amount of time."
The latest report states that filming on Season 3 will take place in Santa Clarita, California, which also served as a primary filming location for Season 2. Showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet are also expected to return along with executive producer Jonathan Nolan.
Frederick E.O. Toye, who has directed multiple episodes in the series, is also slated to return to the director's chair for Season 3. His previous work also includes Shogun and Westworld.
Fallout is currently in the midst of its second season, and so far response has been equally as positive as the first. After four episodes, Season 2 currently sits at a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, a higher score than the already impressive 93% it received for its first season.
"Fallout Season Two successfully expands its post-apocalyptic world to deliver everything audiences could want from a video game adaptation, including sumptuous visuals and riveting performances," the critics consensus reads.
Fans appear equally enthralled with the series, calling it "arguably one of the best video adaptations" of a video game.
There's still no word on when Fallout Season 3 will release, but the fact that filming may begin in May, ahead of schedule, could mean we'll have an even shorter wait between seasons. For what it’s worth, the gap between Season 1 and Season 2 was relatively quick by modern TV standards, at roughly one year and eight months.
Based on one of the greatest video games of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them above.
Season 2, which premiered on December 16, 2025, just aired its fourth episode, which paid tribute to Fallout 3's Operation: Anchorage, which is widely considered to be one of the franchise's best DLC.
