During the Directors on Directing panel at San Diego Comic-Con panel yesterday, directors Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Justin Simien (Dear White People, Bad Hair), and Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Fast X) told a myriad of stories about the challenges of working in Hollywood and getting a film made. The trio also discussed what it's like working on an original creation versus a big studio tentpole.
However, the conversation got rather interesting when Leterrier revealed that he wanted to direct a Fortnite movie. That garnered a sizable amount of applause from the audience.
"The game is amazing...but the characters- I think there's so much more story to tell," said Leterrier.
"Your Fortnite movie would be amazing," added Simien. Leterrier quickly responded, "Well, it would be funny. It would be full of action. I would love to do that."
Fortnite is currently the second best-selling game in the world, behind Minecraft with over 200 million copies sold worldwide, to date. Though the game is free-to-play, it brings in a gargantuan amount of revenue thanks to microtransactions and a season pass.
Currently, Fortnite is on Chapter 4, Season 3, alternatively known as Vibin. The current chapter will end on Friday, August 25, 2023.
An overarching story was introduced to the battle royale game in Season 3 when a meteor crashed into the island. The meteor released a powerful energy source called the Zero Point, which caused a number of strange events to happen on the island.
These events included the appearance of rifts, which allowed players to travel to different dimensions, and the arrival of the Visitor, a mysterious figure who was responsible for the meteor crash.
The story has continued to unfold in each season, with new characters, locations, and items being introduced.
