Fortnite is finally adding the ability to revive dead squadmates. With update 8.30, Fortnite will add the new "Reboot Vans," a feature that many believe was inspired by Respawn Entertainment's battle royale game Apex Legends.
Reboot Vans in Fortnite operate similarly to Respawn Beacons in Apex Legends. When a squadmate dies, they will drop a "Reboot Card" that any surviving squad member can pick up and take to any reboot van, typically located in points of interest around the map.
If the surviving player successfully activates the Reboot Card, the fallen squadmates will begin to spawn in one-by-one on top of the van. However, the revived players will not have any of their previous weapons or items.
When using the Reboot Van, an audio cue and beacon will notify surrounding players that a reboot is in progress and how players are being revived. After a squad reboots, that particular van will be on cooldown and unable to reactivate for a period of time.
Clearly, Reboot Vans are inspired by the Respawn Beacons in Apex Legends, which similarly allow players to respawn dead teammates. There are some slight differences between the mechanics in the two games, but this is yet another example of Fortnite adopting some of Apex Legends' best features. With Season 8, Fortnite also added a ping system to allow players to communicate without voice chat; another feature that Apex Legends introduced first.
Reboot Vans will arrive in Fortnite with update 8.30, which will probably be sometime next week.
