Fortnite Chapter 2 — Season 3 was meant to go live tomorrow (on June 4th), however, the launch of the new season was recently delayed. Season 3 will now officially kick off on June 11th — find out more on that here.
However, what with the delay occuring so close to the new season's originally-intended launch, there has perhaps been some miscommunication which led to a promotional image for the third season leaking online via the PlayStation Store. This promotional piece seems to confirm that the battle royale is in for a huge flood, one that will enrapture the entire map.
We can see the battle bus floating atop an expanse of sea. In the background, there's an small desert island. Now, while this could just be your standard desert island, many believe this island suggests that Fortnite is in for a crossover with SpongeBob SquarePants. After all, both the classic cartoon and free-to-play battle royale game's fanbases are enormous.
You see, the first frame of every SpongeBob SquarePants episode is one which features a very similar-looking island. A small one, with three bending palm trees.
It wouldn't be dissimilar to the game's tie-ins with Batman, Deadpool, and The Avengers. There will supposedly be an underwater theme for the third season, after all. What's more, it's said that the upcoming season will feature an Aquaman skin. Well, what if the skin isn't Aquaman at all but rather Mermaid Man (a character that bares a striking resemblance to Aquaman) from SpongeBob?
