Big things are happening in Fortnite once again, as a giant strange cube appeared in Paradise Palms. The mysterious, magical object appears to be headed towards Tilted Towers or Loot Lake.

On Friday, Epic Games released update 5.30 for Fortnite's popular battle royale mode, The highlight was the arrival of the Rift-To-Go, a new item that allows you to create your very own rift. But it appears the update also contained a few changes to the map. While not noted in the patch notes, players noticed quite a few changes.

For starters, Tomato Town has become Tomato Temple. The multi-tiered temple, surrounded by lush jungle, pays tribute to the tomato head that once stood atop the restaurant in Tomato Town. The arrival of Tomato Temple coincided with the release of an alternate version of the Tomatohead outfit which adds a crown of utensils.

That's not all that's changed, though. More intriguingly, a mysterious, giant cube has appeared. Epic Games had been teasing Fortnite's next big event with bursts of lightning. On Friday, a giant massive bolt of energy struck down from the rift, spawning the giant purple cube in Paradise Palms. At this point, it's unclear what the cube does or how it will impact Fortnite in the coming weeks, but the object does appear to have some magical powers.

When you get close to the cube, you'll see a bunch of hieroglyphics appear momentarily. Standing near the cube will also grant you shields over time. Additionally, according to FortniteIntel, shooting at the cube will result in your death. I also don't recommend bouncing on it as it will eventually send you up so high into the sky that you'll receive massive amounts of fall damage. Interestingly, if you are killed by the cube, you will receive the notification "[player] got too close to" followed by a series of flashing glyphs.

Although the cube started at Paradise Palms, it appears to be moving as well. Every now and then, presumably on a timer, the cube flips over and moves in a direction that seems to be headed towards Tilted Tower or Loot Lake. Like the end of season 4, perhaps season 5 will conclude some sort of big event that dramatically alters the map.

What does it all mean? We'll hopefully find out soon enough as season 5 of Fortnite battle royale is rapidly coming to a close.
