Dive composition consists of high mobility heroes quickly singling out and attacking vulnerable targets (mostly the supports) to strip away a vital component of the enemy team’s composition to snowball the offence. Speed and precision are essential, meaning, Winston are D.Va are the tanks which lead a dive; they create the space and deal a devastating chunk of damage to the targets. However, if those two tanks are defeated, the dive is dead.
So, to defeat the dive meta, Blizard have buffed the tank killer, Reaper. His speed bonus in Wraith Form has been increased from 25% to 50% and players can now cancel it whenever, allowing for more unpredictability and better engagement. Furthermore, his ultimate now reloads his shotguns. These two minor, yet significant buffs allow Reaper to constantly be in the brawl, with shotguns that are almost always loaded, making him a more potent pick against the diving tanks.
Mei’s Endothermic Blaster has taken queues from Moira’s Biotic Spray, it now pierces through enemies, allowing her to freeze multiple targets at once. If played correctly, she could freeze both diving tanks at once, instantly halting the offence.
Finally, the most played hero in Overwatch, D.Va, is receiving a minor damage nerf to a Micro Missiles. Each missile’s damage has been reduced from 6 to 4. Whilst this does not seem like much, it will stop her from instantly deleting her targets.
With the upcoming inclusion of Brigitte, a support and tank hybrid, a diving tank’s worst nightmare. The future of competitive seems bright. A new, hopefully, more varied meta that encourages more playstyles could arise.
