BlizzConline took place this past weekend and revealed so many new things coming to popular games like Starcraft, World of Warcraft, Diablo and Overwatch 2. Fans and players of Overwatch 2 have several additions to be eager about. New heroes, new designs/looks for existing heroes, co-op missions and new maps.
The two new maps revealed are Rome and New York. Rome is described as "romantic, powerful feeling of old-world architecture". Both maps haven't revealed what game mode they will host: payload, control points, etc. The new hero revealed is Sojourn and nothing else besides her rail gun was revealed.
The first thing Overwatch players ask is "will this be a separate game/an extension of the first?" or "will I keep my progress from the first game?" Here is how these two games work. Overwatch 2 is a completely new game. It comes with its own "box", price tag and spot on battle.net. However, players that do not want to buy it can still play PvP with Overwatch 2 owners. The PvE aspect of the game (story missions, hero missions, etc) will be restricted to Overwatch 2 owners.
Basically, Overwatch 1 and 2 share the same PvP content. All the new maps, heroes, balancing changes and more will be shared across the two games. If you own Overwatch you can still play PvP content with your Overwatch 2 friend and vice versa. The only exclusive content is PvE. You will need to buy Overwatch 2 if you want to play the new hero and story missions. However, everything you own gets carried froward to Overwatch 2. Player icons, sprays, emotes and everything is not lost!
Here is the link to the official Overwatch 2 website where you can read up on the announcements and check out their hero design slider.
