Fans tuning into EA Play Live next week in hopes of seeing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 or perhaps another Star Wars game from Electronic Arts, have been warned; no new Star Wars games will be revealed during the showcase. EA has come out and said directly they won't be showing any new Star Wars games, but gave fans something to look forward to.

"We won’t be showing any new Star Wars games at EA Play Live on July 22nd…" EA said in a tweet. "but all of us look forward to celebrating with you next year when we share our vision for the Galaxy far, far away!"

Released in 2019, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is an action-adventure game developed by Respawn Entertainment. The game is set five years after Revenge of the Sith and follows Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan trying to complete his training while on the run from the Galactic Empire and being hunted by two Inquisitors. The game was both a critical and commercial success, having sold more than 10 million copies as of March 2020.

EA hasn't come out and announced a sequel, but it's something the publisher has hinted at in the past. And given the game's success, it wouldn't come as a shock either. A sequel to Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is rumored to be in the works with anywhere from a 2022-2023 release date. If true, a reveal later this year or next year would seem to make the most sense.

EA's announcement also dashes any hopes for a follow-up to Star Wars: Squadrons or a new Star Wars: Battlefront.

In the meantime, Disney has been expanding its reach in gaming. Earlier this year, the company established Lucasfilm Games, the official identity for all gaming titles from Lucasfilm. Shortly after, it was announced that a new open-world Star Wars game was in development at Ubisoft Massive Entertainment, the studio behind The Division.
