Electronic Arts has confirmed that a new
Battlefiend game is in development for the PlayStation 5, Xbox's Project Scarlett, and the PC. Though the last couple of
Battlefield instalments released only two years apart, fans will have to wait a little while longer for a new instalment this time around.
It's said that the next
Battlefield game will release during Fiscal Year 2022 — that is to say between April 2021 and March 2022 (via
Eurogamer). However, taking into account how often
Battlefield games usually release, it will more than likely arrive at some point after April in 2021 — though that's just speculation and by no means official.
While the the next
Battlefield game (which may well be called
Battlefield 6 but that hasn't bee confirmed yet) will be built with the aforementioned next-generation consoles in mind, it will reportedly also release for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Beyond the release window, no other information was divulged during EA's recent earnings call. We can only assumed that EA has slowed down the
Battlefield pipleline on account of the two most recent instalments (
Battlefield 1 and
Battlefield V) proving to be quite controversial and
only mildly successful when compared to earlier instalments — such as
Battlefield 3 and
Battlefield 4.
Enter mankind’s greatest conflict with Battlefield V as the series goes back to its roots with a never-before-seen portrayal of World War 2. Lead your squad to victory with new ways to turn the battlefield to your advantage. Assemble your Company of customized soldiers, weapons, and vehicles – then take them on an epic journey through the Tides of War. Experience the most intense, immersive Battlefield yet. You will never be the same.
Battlefield V is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
