Electronic Acts has finally released official numbers for
Battlefield V, confirming what was known for quite some time now - the title has vastly underperformed. According to EA CEO Andrew Wilson,
Battlefield V missed its sales expectations for the holiday quarter. Since launch,
BFV has sold 7.3 million copies worldwide across all platforms, but the publisher was expecting at least 1 million more.
Although
BFV's results are nothing to brag about, EA touted that 27 million players have played
Battlefield games last year, and that they are committed to “
long-term live service” for players.
Considering that the game's long-overdue co-op mode will launch next week, there's a small chance that
Battlefield V will rebound nicely when it's all said and done. It seems that telling customers that they don't have to buy your game if they don't want to was not the best marketing strategy, after all.
