Activision recently announced that a successful launch for Call of Duty: WWII with more than $500 million in worldwide sales in just its first three days of release, but it hasn't been all smooth sailing. Since its launch on November 3rd, players have experienced issues with the game's online servers and multiplayer. Over the weekend, Activision addressed those server issues, outlined how they plan to fix them, and thanked the "millions of fans" that play every day.

"Our highest priority is to deliver the best online experience possible," developer Sledgehammer Games said in a blog post. "We’re not there yet, and we won’t rest until we are."

On Friday, Sledgehammer pushed live a Game Update that, while solving "several critical needs," also had an adverse effect on server performance. In response to this, Sledgehammer dropped the dedicated servers and moved to a P2P setup. Although this has helped improve things, a P2P setup means some players may experience Host Migrations and other little annoyances that may hinder the online gameplay experience.  Sledgehammer said its their "highest priority" to return to dedicated servers.

Over the weekend, Sledgehammer did roll out and test dedicated servers in "limited markets" located within the United States. "This level of data and diagnostics is helping us work toward a permanent solution as quickly as possible," Sledgehammer said. "We’ll watch this test closely, and once we analyze the results we’ll look to expand."

Sledgehammer also addressed another issue players are experiencing: game disconnects from the server. The studio has discovered the root cause of the issue, and a patch has already been released to fix the problem, which could cause loss of stats and freezing in the post match lobby.

Sledgehammer also confirmed that Headquarters is still not working as intended. HQ is designed to operate as a social hub similar to The Tower in Destiny; however, it's currently implemented as a solo experience to help improve the online experience. Unfortunately, it will remain as a solo experience "for some time," although you are able to manually invite friends to join you.

Lastly, Sledgehammer reaffirmed their commitment to PC. The next PC Title Update is ready to go, but Sledgehammer feels they should fix the above-mentioned issues, some of which also impact the PC player base, before deploying the PC patch.

"This is only the beginning, so thank you for playing," Sledgehammer concluded. "We won’t rest until we resolve everything we can for the community."
