Following yesterday's release of the Compact SMG in
update 5.10, Epic Games has released a hotfix in an attempt to balance what many consider to be overpowered SMG weapons. Both the standard Submachine Gun as well as the newly-released Compact SMG have received nerfs following a ton of player feedback.
While the Submachine Gun has been available in the game for a few weeks now, many had considered it to be one of the stronger weapons in the game. But it was really the release of yesterday's Compact SMG that caused backlash due to its ridiculously overpowered stats.
Admitting SMGs are
"stronger than we would like at the moment," Epic has moved swiftly to release a hotfix offering the following changes to bring them
"more in line with where we want them."
-
SMG and Compact SMG accuracy bonus reduced from 35% to 15%.
-
SMG damage reduced from 19/20/21 to 17/18/19.
-
Compact SMG damage reduced from 23/24 to 21/22.
-
SMG fire rate reduced from 13 to 12.
-
Compact SMG fire rate reduced from 11 to 10.
-
SMG, Compact SMG, and Silenced SMG damage falloff.
-
Range reduced from 2400/3500/5000 to 2000/3000/4000.
-
Percentage reduced from 100/80/65% to 100/70/40%.
-
Rare SMG and Compact SMGs drop rates slightly reduced.
Epic has slowly been attempting to shift the meta of
Fortnite in an attempt to move away from the "build and shotgun" rut that the game has fallen into. In addition to the new SMGs, Epic has
lowered the health of wood building materials and adjusted the timing of the storm circles with update 5.10.
