Fortnite's sixth season introduces pets, haunted new locations, awesome outfits, and a mysterious new consumable: "Shadow Stones."
Unfortunately, Shadow Stones are no longer present within the battle-royale as Epic Games have quickly removed them on account of unforeseen issues surrounding them. The developer recently said as such on Twitter: "Due to an issue with Shadow Stones, we're disabling them until we have a fix."
Following the giant Purple Cube, which the Fortnite community dubbed Kevin, emerging into the sky and bringing Loot Lake with it, the surrounding area was left a crater. Amongst the rubble you could find mini versions of Kevin, these are of course the Shadow Stones in question.
Despite Epic's lack of specificity in their tweet, the "issue" is likely due to the abilities the consumable provides the player after ingestion. Consuming the Shadow Stone will put you in a state in which you cannot use your weapons, are invisible to enemies (whilst stationary), and can phase through solid walls.
It's that last ability that has likely proven problematic. Players have been able to phase into places they have never been before and shouldn't be allowed to now - such as the back of closed 18-wheeler trucks. Should the player enter one of these forbidden areas, that they can only get in and out of whilst in Shadow Form, then the consumables effect wears off, the player will be trapped and therefore other players won't be able to eliminate them.
What do you think of the Shadow Stones' removal? Had you tried them out yet? If so, what did you think of the Shadow Form?
Fortnite Season 6 has begun.
