Yesterday,
Blizzard Entertainment announced Overwatch 2. Sequel to the competitive shooter that released back in 2016,
Overwatch 2 will retain the popular PvP aspect of the first game whilst also introducing more PvE content — such as co-operative story missions.
With an exciting animated cinematic and gameplay trailer, we found out that
Overwatch 2 will feature improved visuals and a new engine — in relation to its predecessor. However, the sequel will apparently still release within the current generation of consoles.
We know that
Overwatch 2 is in development for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC but we know absolutely nothing in regards to release dates. Given that the next generation of consoles will debut near the end of next year, we can only presume that
Overwatch 2 will release before then — but that's just speculation.
Jeff Kaplan, game director of both
Overwatch and
Overwatch 2, spoke at BlizzCon (via
Comicbook) after the initial reveal of the sequel. According to Kaplan, Blizzard has absolutely no idea when
Overwatch 2 will release.
“I don’t know, I have no idea. Like, just let us make it great,” Kaplan explained that their focus is currently on developing the game and not on releasing it.
“That’s what we care about more than anything. We don’t have a date in mind.”
