BlizzCon 2019 kicked off today and saw Jeff Kaplan take to the stage to officially announce
Overwatch 2.
It turns out that those leaks from earlier this week were legitimate after all. As was suggested by the many leaks and rumours,
Overwatch 2 will feature a lot more PvE aspects. There will still be good ol' PvP but also story missions that players can take on together.
The announcement of the highly anticipated sequel was done so with an absolutely incredible animated cinematic.
"Zero Hour" sees Winston, Tracer, and Mei arrive on the scene to take down some omnics. They're heavily outnumbered but help is thankfully on the way. You can check out the animated short below.
Following that, Blizzard Entertainment shared a gameplay trailer which shows off
Overwatch 2 in action — check it out below (via
PlayOverwatch). In comparison to the first
Overwatch, the visuals have been drastically improved. There's also a plethora of new mechanics such as
"Talents," and you'll be able to level up heroes' abilities.
Every single pre-existing hero has been given a slick redesign. It was announced that multiple new heroes will be introduced in
Overwatch 2 — including the long-awaited Sojourn. Not only will there be new maps and modes but all of those from
Overwatch will carry over. As well, cosmetic items that players have earned will carry over into the sequel.
