The heat is on. With summer in full swing
Overwatch's annual Summer Games are returning. Blizzard confirmed on Twitter that the 2018 Summer Games will return on August 9, posting the save the date alongside an image showcasing Lucioball.
Lucioball is a brawl mode exclusive the Summer Games event and features two teams of three-players, all playing the character Lucio by default. The concept is similar to those of a football/soccer game, with players using Lucio's skills and abilities to try and score on the other team. The mode was fun when first introduced during the inaugural Summer Games, but with this being the third year in a row, it seems fans were hoping for something new this year.
On the bright side, fans should see new cosmetics for this year's event, including new skins, emotes, sprays, voice lines and more. It's possible cosmetics from past years' Summer Games will also return at a discounted price, but we'll have to wait for official confirmation from Blizzard. The developer will likely announce details about the event before it kicks off next week.
On a related note, Blizzard has teamed up with Twitch to provide Prime members with free in-game rewards
in the form of Wrecking Ball Loot Boxes. Available through September 3, these promotional Loot Boxes celebrate
Overwatch's
newest character, Wrecking Ball, and contain four random items specific to the new hero.
