PUBG MOBILE Launches Surprise Beta For Android Devices In Canada

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds mobile off-shoot, PUBG Mobile, is running a beta for Android devices in Canada. Is this the first sign that it'll come to the rest of the Western world?

Hot on the heels of Epic Games announcing a mobile version of Fortnite Battle Royale, its competitor PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has received a surprise release on mobile devices in the West.

Announced today, PUBG Mobile is running a beta in Canada on Android. It was announced on the official PUBG Mobile Twitter account.

PUBG Mobile is made possible with PUBG Corp.'s deal with Chinese tech giant Tencent. The company not only acquired the rights to public the popular PC game in China, but it also worked on two mobile spinoffs. Both have already been released in China, and until now we weren't sure about them coming to the West. That no longer appears to be in question, although the beta is only available in Canada as of now.

According to the game's Google Store page, this is an "authentic port" of the PC version, built with Unreal Engine 4. The description reads:

Officially licensed PUBG MOBILE, the original battle royale style game is coming! Unreal Engine 4 brings smooth, next-generation graphics to your mobile device, and produces a graphical and audio experience that perfectly recreates the PC version.

While it's exciting to see PUBG Mobile come to Canada on Android, there's unfortunately no news when the game will come to iOS or the rest of the Western world.
