EA Sports College Football 25 may not be the only football video game revealed by Electronic Arts this week. A new rumor from billbil-kun claims that EA will also reveal Madden NFL 25 this week.
Billbil-kun, who has a fairly solid track record for reporting on announcing gaming news, claims that Madden NFL 25 will be officially announced on May 16th. That also happens to be the same day that EA plans to reveal EA Sports College Football 25.
The report also claims that Madden NFL 25 will launch on August 16. EA's Madden games typically release in early or mid-August, so this isn't terribly unexpected.
In addition to the standard edition, which will retail for $69.99, there will also reportedly be a Deluxe Edition for $99.99. As usual, those who purchase the Deluxe Edition or subscribe to EA Play will be able to play a few days early —starting on August 12. Again, this is usually how it works for Madden, so there's no reason to expect anything different this year.
No other details about the game, such as the cover star for Madden 25, were provided. The report did say that the cover star may be announced after the actual game, which feels a bit backward for Madden.
It's unclear how in-depth this announcement for Madden NFL 25 will be, if true. It's possible EA could simply announce its title while giving us another date to look forward to for a full reveal.
I could see why EA would want to piggyback off the hype generated by EA Sports College Football to help propel its Madden franchise as well — especially if the two games link together with Franchise mode and importing draft classes — but I don't think they'd want to draw too much away from the excitement of the long-awaited return of college football.
Although billbil-kun refers to it as Madden NFL 25, it's still unclear how EA plans to title this year's game. 2013's Madden game was also called Madden NFL 25 due to the celebration of the franchise's 25th anniversary. It's quite possible that this year's game will simply have the same name.
EA Sports College Football 25 is expected to be revealed on Thursday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m. ET. Thanks to the PlayStation Store, we got our first look at one of this year's covers, which features Michigan running back Donovan Edwards, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers and Colorado athlete Travis Hunter front and center. EA Sports College Football 25 is rumored to launch in July, something that may be confirmed this week.
