Gotham Knights will not be releasing this year. Taking to social media, developer WB Games Montreal announced that the highly anticipated superhero action game will need a bit more time in the oven. As a result, it has been delayed to 2022. Gotham Knights was originally slated for release sometime this year.
“We are giving the game more time to deliver the best possible experience for players,” WB Games Montreal said in a statement online. “Thank you to our amazing fans for your tremendous support of Gotham Knights. We look forward to showcasing more of the game in the coming months.”
Gotham Knights was revealed last August during DC FanDome. The open-world, action RPG takes players to "the most dynamic and interactive Gotham City yet" where they must patrol Gotham's five boroughs and put an end to criminal activity.
The twist, however, is that they will not be doing this as Batman. In Gotham Knights, the Caped Crusader is dead and players must protect the city's citizens from danger by suiting up as members of the Batman Family -- specifically, Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin.
Batman is dead. A new expansive, criminal underworld has swept the streets of Gotham City. It is now up to the Batman Family; Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin; to protect Gotham, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops, and fear to its criminals. From solving mysteries that connect the darkest chapters in the city’s history to defeating notorious villains in epic confrontations, you must evolve into the new Dark Knight and save the streets from descent into chaos.
Gotham Knights is playable solo or cooperative with a drop-in/drop-out support. It will be released on PC, PS4 and PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
